I'm David Rhoades, pastor of Broadview Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Over thirty years in ministry, I understand what the work asks of the men who do it. So I write letters — one pastor to another, short and honest, meant to encourage, the way Paul wrote to encourage the Romans (Romans 1:11–12).

A letter shows up most weeks. Some men write back. It's free, and it will stay free — I'll never appeal to you for money. What I have freely received, I freely give (Matthew 10:8).

What one sounds like
Sermon prep is the only block on a pastor's calendar that nobody defends.
A funeral moves it. A hospital call moves it, and should. A parking-lot conversation that turns out to matter moves it. The block rarely gets cancelled outright — it gets shaved. Twenty minutes here, an hour there. By Friday there's a sermon, and no clear account of where the week went.
